Dr. Monica Ohkubo

Dr. Ohkubo has been the Head Athletic Trainer (AT) at Santa Rosa Junior College since 2007 after starting her career at SRJC as an assistant AT in 2005.  She is also the Sports Medicine program director and faculty in the Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance department.  Dr. Ohkubo has a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with a concentration Athletic Training from Sonoma State University and her Master’s degree from San Jose State University.  She completed her Doctoral degree at Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2017.  Her dissertation examined the role of California Community College Athletic Training Preparation Programs: Relevance to Athletic Training Education and Student Success. 

Dr. Ohkubo has worked with a wide range of patients including SRJC’s 17 intercollegiate teams, Ultimate Frisbee players, semi-professional soccer players, USA youth volleyball, taekwondo and wrestling, professional rodeo with Justin Sports Medicine, and was the AT for the Santa Rosa Scorchers Women’s professional football team for over 5 years.  Dr. Ohkubo has also worked as an AT in the physical therapy setting, and was head AT at Silver Creek High School in San Jose.  She is also certified as an EMT-B and an American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid instructor.  Dr. Ohkubo also volunteers in her community, advocating and supporting the movement to hire ATs in all area high schools.  She also serves as SRJC Academic Senate Vice President, Sonoma County Athletic Trainers’ Association President, CATA Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee Chair and a FWATA Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee state representative.
